Training– 16 weeks by Design 2

We have worked hard in the last year to build up stamina.  I had 15 years of sitting in meetings and at the computer, and Joe had a relaxed retirement interrupted by a sinus surgery in November. Yes, gruesome.  But look how far we have come!

We followed a 16 week Half Marathon Training plan from January 15 to May 5.

We hiked with Auntie Elaine, Tommy Waller, Bill and Stephanie, Kathy and Judy, Amy and Isabella and Giuliana, Bob, Bobby Mac, Michelle and David, Reva, Ank and the kids in a stroller, and the Puget Sound Chapter of Pilgrims on the Camino.  We biked, ran, hiked, walked, did yin yoga and lifted weights.  We tried out shoes, boots, taping, Vaseline-ing, pants, shorts, polyester t shirts, merino t shirts, various midlayers, down coats, fleece coats, and rain coats.  As we say in honor of my dad’s methodical preparations, I was really Georging it up. All we could do to prepare physically and sartorially, we did.  And we are definitely ready.

Our toughest day will be a 2,000 foot elevation gain to O’Cebreiro over about 9 miles.  No problem after the Icicle Ridge Hike with Bill and Stephanie, 12 miles with about 3,000 feet gain.  Joe has been nursing a sore foot so has been doing stationary bike at the gym and walking very little.  He says he is not at all worried about walking because he has plenty of cab fare in his pocket.

About dbarloworg

I retired in 2016 and joined Joe in lounging around the home all day. We started this blog to record our Camino in May of 2017, then kept it going through my Camino in September 2017, and used it again for my trip to Nepal in 2018 and further.

Thanks! There is a lot of fun, too, in the planning and research (I am my father’s daughter). Now if we can just be zen enough to flow along with the problems and pace! Thanks for taking the time to look us up.
